If you are like a good many Austinites, you may have come to dislike the winter season for one major reason: cedar allergies are driving you crazy. Sneezing attacks, your sinuses draining constantly, your eyes itching, and it's hard to breathe through your nose. Welcome to Cedar Fever Time in Central Texas (from late December through mid-February). Allergies are so bad here that many of the major drug companies do their clinical testing of the newest antihistamines for allergy treatment here in the winter--cedar fever is one of the worst!
One of these natural allergy supplements is Omega 3 oils. By increasing your dietary intake of these oils, it has the effect of calming our immune system so that we don't respond to pollens so actively. Cold-water fish such as salmon, tuna, haddock, and sardines are great dietary sources. I also recommend a tablespoon of purified fish oil as a supplemental source of Omega 3 oils. Purified fish oil has a pleasant citrus flavor--no "fishy" taste at all! For allergy sufferers, this supplement is especially important in the fall and winter for cedar allergy relief. Probiotics can be a tremendous benefit to allergy sufferers, especially on a long-term basis.
