Allergies? Get allergy relief by treatment with nutritional supplements.Even Austin's Cedar Fever Sufferers Can Be HelpedHome / Allergies The following is the recommendation of Dr. Jim McNabb, a licensed physician and certified nutritionist. The goal of this web site is to help people live their lives free of disease, with nutritional supplements and sound, practical advice on diet and health issues. Physician-Nutrition Mission Statement If you are like a good many Austinites, you may have come to dislike the winter season for one major reason: your sinuses are draining, your eyes are itching, and it's hard to breathe through your nose. You know that it's Cedar Fever Time in Central Texas (from late December through mid-February) from the terrible way that you are feeling. Allergies are so bad here that many of the major drug companies do their clinical testing of the newest antihistamines for allergy treatment here in the winter--cedar fever is one of the worst! Sales of antihistamines are huge in winter. Yet they are expensive, sedating, and often, they don't do the job. There are a number of nutritional approaches to allergy relief that reduce the body's propensity to react to pollens. The first nutritional supplement is to increase your dietary intake of omega 3 oils. Omega 3 oils have the effect of calming our immune system so that we don't respond to pollens so actively. Cold-water fish such as salmon, tuna, haddock, and sardines are great sources. I also recommend a tablespoon of fish oil as a supplemental source of omega 3 oils. This is especially so in the fall and winter. There are also some natural antihistamines that are quite effective. One is quercetin, a compound found in apples, onions and garlic. I have found that 350 mg, three times a day, is quite effective. During severe allergy times, I have even used two or three times that amount. Other supplements that work well with quercetin are tumeric, bromelain, and boswellia. I recommend a product called BCQ, which has all four of these ingredients. Reducing allergies with BCQ has been one of my nutritional success stories. Everyone who has tried it likes it. The daily dose is between 1 and 10 pills, depending on severity of the allergy symptoms; they are available in bottles of 60, 120 and 240 capsules. Understand that nutrients do not act like drugs. They work best when taken over a long time. So give them a running start in preparation of cedar fever time.
