Purified Fish Oil: A Tasty Harvest of Nutrients
I have long recommend the Pharmax brand of cod liver oil (Ultimate Cod Liver Oil) as my first choice in omega 3 oil supplementation. My reasoning was that, at a teaspoon per day, it was inexpensive, and contained both vitamins A and D, which basically came free along with the omega 3 oils.
However, a new product has come along which has changed my thinking. Finest Pure Fish Oil, also a Pharmax product, is now my recommended choice. The main reason is that the Fish Oil contains much more of the DHA and EPA than the Cod Liver Oil, 2250 mg as compared with 975 mg for the Cod Liver Oil. This is 130% more EPA and DHA per teaspoon. For example, I have found that it often takes a higher amount of omega 3's to cure dry eye symptoms. Also, since vitamin D has become much more popular with both medical practitioners and supplement manufacturers, people are getting their vitamin D from many other sources. A third reason is that the Pure Fish Oil is much better tasting…just a hint of citrus, and no taste of fish!
Therefore, Finest Pure Fish Oil is a better value due to the increased concentration, and it tastes better. Two good reasons to make the switch.
